Membership Structure

Anyone who is part of Animal Think Tank belongs to one of three membership classes. Core and Associate Members hold ongoing formal roles in the organisation, and are considered "Members". Contributors are typically involved on a more informal and ad hoc basis.

*NOTE: If a member does not have a right to x, this doesn't necessarily mean that can never have access to certain x. Only that they don't have the right to x. For example, it would make sense to offer a contributor some of the accessibilities of an Associate Member in the case they are working 2 months for 5 days a week. In such cases consult recruitment of the best course of action

Associate Membership

Associate Members have the right to rely on the Constitution and any agreements binding the organisation and its Members. Associate Members have the following rights:

  • Fill an official role within ATT's (in Glassfrog)

  • Rely upon ATT's Membership and Community Agreements

  • Have access to ATT's community spaces

  • Rely upon and participate in ATT governance

  • Have access to a monthly meeting with a steward

Core Membership

Core Members have all the rights and entitlements of Associate Members, plus additional Core Member rights documented in governance.

An individual can be considered a Core Member if:

  • They have been given Core Membership through a Membership Review Process

    • All Associate Members have a membership review after 4 months of joining the organisation.

Core Member Additional Rights

  • Participate in a vote of no confidence of a member of the direction circle.

The direction circle must discuss and report back in 30 days if any member of ATT delivers a vote of no confidence in a member of direction, provides a reasoned explanation for why and has it signed of by 51% of all Core Members.

  • Be consulted on major shift of organisational activity

Any decision that intends to create a major shift in the organisation’s activity (e.g. relocating the organisation’s premises, large shifts in purpose) must not be made until after a reasonable effort to consult all Core Members. When the decision must be made urgently, this obligation does not apply.

Contributor

Contributors have basic rights outlined in Contributor Rights and Expectations. An individual must be considered a "Contributor" to the organisation if they contribute to the organisation's mission and activities on a voluntary basis with the consent of at least one ATT Member, but do not meet the description of an Associate or Core Member.

Note: "Membership" here does not correspond to the same Membership status described in the organisation’s Articles of Association.

Contractor

People join as a contractor if they:

  • Are providing a unique service as paid professionals

  • Do not wish to join ATT as a member (e.g. don't align with the mission)
