Membership Assignment Process

Members either join as an Associate Member, Contributor or Contractor.

Associate Member

1) Associate.

An individual can be considered an Associate member if:

  • They are expected to be working with ATT for 3+ months AND

  • They are expected to be working with ATT for at least 2 days / 15hrs a week AND

  • Sign the membership agreements

How to recruit an AM

a) A role co-ordinator discovers a need for a new role OR has an opening in a pre-existing role within their circle that would require an AM to fill. (Refer to AM requirements)

b) The role co-ordinator proposes the role as an organisational priority to the direction circle along with expected hours (e.g. 2 / 3 days a week / full time)

c) The Direction circle will either pass or fail it as an organisational priority.

  • If a role is an organisational priority, it will be funded

  • Direction may come back with a new proposal for the role to be reduced in hours. In the case of a part-time role, direction may pass it as a priority, but cap it at limited funding due to resource limitations.

Route 1 - If proposal passes

d) The role co-ordinator writes a success plan for the role.

e) The role co-ordinator provides recruitment the success plans and requests a search to fill the role.

f) Recruitment advertises for the role. (Recruitments 1st action is to see if there is anyone within the ATT network who may be a good fit and if not, advertise through normal streams)

g) Recruitment asks candidates whether they have the Right to Work

h) Recruitment forwards candidates to role co-ordinator as and when they apply.

i) The role co-ordinator creates a shortlist of candidates

- By comparing applications AND

- Engaging applicants in a short 1st round of interviews

(If this role is to be based in Lancaster, it is at this point that this is clarified (we do this because it is more likely that a potential applicant will back out after being asked to relocate during the email stage rather than at the interview stage when they have a personal connection with someone working here).

It is also at this point where compensation is clarified.

Note that both of the above are stated on the website

j) All shortlisted candidates attend a full interview process (Ideally in Lancaster):

Role fit (run by the role co-ordinator),

Core Culture contribution (run by an allocated culture interviewer) AND

Mission fit (run by an allocated mission interviewer).

k) Interviewers decide on the preferred candidate during a debrief. Using 10 Factor Assessment and Quality of Hire Score Card

l) The candidate receives an offer

m) The candidate submits a compensation application

n) The grant panel accepts or negotiates the compensation application

o) The candidate accepts the role and membership by signing the Membership Agreement

Route 2 - If proposal fails

d) the role is reconsidered either as a role suitable for a contributor (see Contributor Recruitment Process below) OR as a role to be created and filled at a later point.

Contributor

An individual can be considered a Contributor if:

  • They are expected to be working with ATT for less than 3+ months OR

  • They are expected to be working with ATT for at least 2 days / 15hrs a week

Note the guidlines for memebrship are rough. It might make sense to widen this bracket if some circumstances. E.g if someone is joining for 2 months 5 days a week. Use your common sense and consult People and Culture if unsure

How to recruit a contributor

a) A role co-ordinator creates a new project / role OR has an opening in a pre-existing project / role within their circle that would require a Contributor to fill.

b) The role coordinator summarises the project / role in the ATT project board. *Project board is live on the website*

c) The role co-ordinator informs recruitment that they have updated the project board & requests they advertise for the role

d) Recruitment will broadcast the project board to the ATT's volunteer list and then advertise on job boards such as Idealist, Reach Volunteering, Vegan Hacktivist Playground, Vegan Jobs etc.

d) Recruitment forwards any applications over to the role-coordinator

e) The role-coordinator has a chat with the applicant about the role.

f) The role co-ordinator can decide to bring them on whilst having the chat or defer to decision till after refection.

Contractor

People join as a contractor if they:

  • They are providing a unique service as a paid professional

  • They do not wish to join ATT as a member (e.g. don't align with the mission)

Members can also become Core Members though a Membership Review Process.

Core

Members can only become a Core Member through a membership review.

After 4 months, all AM go through a membership review. Membership reviews determine whether a someone's membership is subject to change. For example, an Associate Member might become a contributor or a Core member. (However any change from any membership to another is possible).
