Respect Towards Fellow Animals
We are an anti-speciesist organisation. We act in solidarity with and in service of other animals. We actively centre fellow animals in our vision for change. We practice this in multiple ways, for example:
We're mindful to represent other animals in an anti-speciesist way. For instance, we avoid using language or imagery that reinforces the idea of animals being 'property' or 'commodities'.
We frequently hold a minute’s silence to remember all fellow animals who suffer due to human oppression and interference, and to remember why we are here.
We understand that there is much we still have to learn from other animals, and also much we still have to unlearn about our interactions and assumptions.
Animal Companions at Work
We embrace having animal companions in our work space, and are aware that their needs often differ from our own. We understand that sometimes they want space (when they are tired or eating or move away from us) and sometimes they want companionship. We are guided by their needs and signalling (with the obvious exception of food-begging and excessive attention-seeking behaviour). We don't try to impose our own needs on them but instead wait for their consent, just like we would with human animals.
