When you should attend meetings

Meetings fall into three buckets at ATT:

  • Tactical Meetings: Circles' operational meetings. These are our major way of delivering updates and staying up to speed with what's going on in our circle. By default you are invited to attend your Circle's Tactical meetings, and generally it's a good idea to prioritise attending these. That said, you only have to prioritise attending them if a role in your circle specifically requests you to.

  • Governance Meetings: These are where we step back, get out of the weeds, and work on the circle itself. We define the work that needs doing and sort out structural tensions that are holding roles back from their full potential. It's a good idea to prioritise attending Governance meetings of Circles you're heavily involved with. Like Tacticals, you are invited to your Circle's Governance meetings by default. Also like Tacticals, you only have to prioritise attending them if a role in your circle specifically requests you to.

  • Special Topic Meetings: These include everything ranging from a quick scheduled brainstorm of ideas to a large whole team retreat. It's up to your judgment whether you prioritise these, based on your role's needs.

Some general guidelines:

  • If you're not sure whether to attend a meeting, ask the convener for the information you need so you can make a decision.

  • If you want others to attend your meeting, give them enough information so they can decide whether to attend.

  • If you decide not to attend a meeting, it's respectful practice to let the relevant people know.

  • If you're cancelling a meeting but feel it's needed in future, it's respectful practice to reschedule it yourself.
